New Bindings: So Long, Step-Ins

As I mentioned previously I was having some serious issues
with the step-in bindings I owned. I initially thought I would just get
another pair of step-ins; I didn’t want to lose the convenience of
simply stepping in and riding down. But after a great deal of
deliberation I took the plunge and bought a pair of Salomon SP1 snowboard bindings.

The verdict? Ratchet bindings are badass! It seriously takes no time
whatsoever to ratchet the things up before a run. I also feel like I
have far more control of my board, as the top of my foot is no longer
covered; I have a little more freedom and flexibility in my movements.
And because I was so concerned about popping out before, I found myself
limiting what I did; now I don’t have to worry about it, so I can ride
with confidence.

Anyway, I’m still a fan of the step-ins when starting out. But once you
get into more challenging, punishing terrain, I recommend ratcheting it
up.
